Viewing and Reporting HL7 Lab Results

The instructions on this page presume you have configured task prototype sequences to streamline the workflow.

A patient's lab results that are received via the HL7 interface appear in the designated provider's Chart Box tab at the bottom of the Clinical Work Area.
  1. Find the patient and view the results in one of the following ways:
    • Locate the patient name in the Chart Box tab, right click on the test with the Status = HL7 Results Received, and select Go to Data Screen, which opens the Lab Results - HL7 screen. Note: use the Order Status drop-down list to filter by HL7 Results Received.
    • Select the Search Medical Record tab at the bottom of the Clinical Work Area, search for the patient, and select Go to Data Screen, which opens the Lab Results - HL7 screen.

Report the results. These steps save the report to the patient's chart from where it can be encrypted and emailed with password protection, if required.

  1. Open the Reports List - F2, select the HL7 Lab Import Results, and run the report.
  2. Select to export the report by selecting the envelope icon to the right of the printer icon.
    You are prompted with the question, "Do you want to email this report?"
  3. Select No to receive a second prompt, "Do you want to add this report to a patients medical record?"
  4. Select Yes to open the Attach File screen and allow you to add the report to the patient's medical record.
  5. Type the name of the report in the Name field and select Add to Medical Record.
  6. Return to the Search Medical Record tab of the Clinical Work Area and locate the report attached previously.
  7. Select Staple/Send to select from the list of email addresses to send the report.
    The report is encrypted automatically. Follow your organization's procedures regarding password protection of emails from SYSTOC.
