Configure SYSTOC to Receive Laboratory Results via HL7

Various screens in the File Maintenance and Utility sections of SYSTOC contain IDs or settings that must be configured before attempting to order tests or receive results via the HL7 Laboratory Interface.

Set up each of the areas that require configuration in the order they are presented because some screens require information created in a previous file maintenance screen

Clinical Laboratory Information

  1. Assemble a list of the following for each clinical laboratory you plan to use:
    • The account number and lab location code assigned to your organization by each laboratory. The account number and lab location information may appear on paperwork you have from the laboratory. Request this information from the laboratory if you do not have it.
    • The list of laboratory test codes you will use for each laboratory.

Clinical Laboratory Setup

  1. Set up clinical laboratories.
  2. Provide your Configuration Specialist with a list of the Lab ID’s you set up in the previous step.
  3. Add the laboratory test codes to SYSTOC for each laboratory.

PDF lab requisition order form

  1. Identify the PDF Lab Order Requisition form that you will use for each laboratory
    • The standard requisition form is HL7 Lab Requisition.pdf
    • Request a single custom lab requisition form to use for additional SYSTOC Lab IDs that you provided to your configuration manager previously. Be specific with the details needed on the custom lab requisition form. A good practice is to begin with the standard requisition form and make adjustments needed to accommodate all other laboratories.
Note: The custom lab requisition form should have a drop-down list of your SYSTOC Lab IDs.

Set up task prototypes. Complete these steps after you have received your custom lab requisition form.

  1. Update or create the task prototypes used for laboratory orders and assign the appropriate lab requisition PDF form to the task prototype.
