Recording an OSHA-Reportable Hearing Loss

If you want all OSHA-reportable events to print on one report for each company, each loss of hearing sufficient to trigger an OSHA-reportable event must be recorded as an injury.

  1. Create a new injury record for the patient, checking the OSHA-Rept field. If the hearing loss is due to a sudden event or trauma, classify it as an injury. Otherwise enter it as an illness with a code of H (Hearing Loss) selected from the Illness drop-down menu.
  2. Create one treatment record to describe the hearing loss and give the date of testing. Make certain to put the current work status as R in the Clinic Status field with the date of the audiogram as the effective date.
  3. When you leave the treatment area, reply Y to the close case question.
