Clinical Work Area Quick Guide

Note: Provider access to computers may dictate whether the steps below can be taken in the order shown.
  1. Open the CWA. If the Staff ID field does not contain your ID, enter it and display your current day's appointments.
  2. Check for patients who have arrived at the clinic and select one with a status that matches your role, such as Needs Provider or Needs Nurse.
  3. Click on that patient's appointment text block and review the orders shown on the Current Orders tab. Orders that have been done will be at the bottom of the list, colored green.
  4. If this is a returning patient, review his/her previous records. You can:
    • Use the Search Medical Record tab to see charts from previous visits.
    • Use the History tab to view previous injury records. Select an injury in the upper grid to display the associated treatments in the lower grid.
    • Use the Medical History tab to view available information about vitals, medications, allergies, conditions, and immunizations.
  5. When you see the patient, enter the In time and update the Room and Patient Status fields as needed.
  6. Complete the applicable orders, following the numbers in the Seq column, if available. (You may not complete them all during the course of this visit.)
Orders displaying a pencil icon have attached forms; click the icon to open and fill in the appropriate fields. Save and click the Exit button to return to the CWA.
  7. If the Done field is not checked off automatically after an order is completed, do it manually.
  8. Add new orders if needed by selecting Add Order(s) from the right mouse button option menu and using the Select Orders window.
  9. When you finish with this patient, make the appropriate entry in the Pt. Status field.
  10. Before selecting your next patient, update screen data by clicking the Refresh Off/On button or the Refresh Appts menu option.
  11. As time permits, use the Chart Box tab to work on unfinished orders. Enter your ID in the Owner field if needed, and/or clear that field and search by group.
