Freehand Drawing

The Freehand Drawing Tool can be used to apply an on-the-fly signature, comment, or shape to a PDF form without the need for a signature device. The drawing can be applied to a signature field (if there is one), but only when the Signing Tool is accessed via the toolbar button. More typically, the drawing is placed near the right-click insertion point when the right-click > Sign Here option is used.

The following steps outline the procedure for applying a drawing to a PDF form using the Freehand Drawing Tool.

  1. From any orders grid, open the desired form.
  2. Right-click and select the Sign Here option to display the Signature window.
  3. Click the Freehand Drawing tab to access the capture screen.
  4. Select a value for the Pen Width. A value between 2 and 6 generally works well, but it can be changed after signing if necessary.
  5. Use a mouse or a stylus, if one is available, to draw a signature, comment, or shape in the capture window.
    • If you are not satisfied with what you have drawn, click the Clear button and try again.
    • If what you have drawn is acceptable, click the Apply to Form button to apply the drawing to the form or click the Save for Future Use button to add the drawing to the Saved Signatures/Images list.
  6. When prompted, enter a name for the drawing. This name will display in the selection list in the signing tool (Saved Signatures/Images tab) as well as the stamp tool.
  7. Close the Signature window.

You can also use the freehand drawing tool by navigating to Utility > Personal Preferences > Signatures.
