Work/Patient Restrictions

There are two methods for recording work restrictions in SYSTOC, and which one your clinic chooses will depend on the preferences of the administration and physicians. The traditional method is to use the Work/Patient Restrictions section at the bottom of the Treatment screen. An alternative method is to produce a narrative from within a PDF form that, when saved, is stored in the F3 Treatment memo.

To use the Work/Patient Restrictions section of the Treatment screen, click the Add Work Restriction(s) button. This displays a list of restrictions that have been previously defined. A restriction can either be designated as personal (Type P) or work-related (Type W). Personal restrictions appear on the portion of the Discharge Summary Report for the patient. Work-related restrictions appear on the report for the patient and company and in the Injury detail view of iSYSTOC. Build these restrictions in File Maintenance > Setup - Injury > Work Restriction Codes.

Select Work/Patient restrictions

Choose one or more restrictions by checking the boxes in the Select column, then click the Add Restriction(s) button to return to the Work/Patient Restrictions section. To delete a restriction, simply check the box to the left of the entry and click the Remove Work Restriction(s) button at the bottom.

Refine work restrictions

Depending upon how well the restrictions fit the patient's needs, you may wish to more narrowly define them by editing the Description, Value, and Units fields. Most of the grid is editable. Place the cursor in the item you want to change and type the new value. For example, for the lifting restriction Do not lift over, enter 5, 15, 25, etc. in the Value field. The appropriate unit in this case was already indicated (lbs). In other cases, you might change the unit also. The GENERAL restriction shown in the image above can be edited to create a restriction not already found in the list.

Work restrictions can be used to reinforce the current work status of the patient. If the patient is returned to active duty after having had work restrictions in the past, simply add a work restriction that says RTW, Return to full duty. This prints on the Discharge Summary Report and automatically is sent to the company. There are other places where the work status is indicated, but adding it to the restrictions can be an effective way to make sure the company is informed, especially if the clinic is not following the procedure of calling the company when there is a change in work status.
