Creating Patient IDs
The Patient ID is the unique identifier required for every patient, has a maximum of nine characters, and is non-editable. You can establish your own system to create Patient IDs, or SYSTOC can create them for you when adding a patient via the Patient Summary screen.
To have Patient IDs automatically generated by SYSTOC, go to and turn on Auto Generate New Patient ID. Alternately, you can auto-generate a Patient ID on-the-fly by clicking the Gen ID button (Alt+G) that displays when adding a patient via the Patient Summary screen (and the Auto Generate preference has been turned off). When a Patient ID is auto-generated, it appears as a nine-digit number with a leading 9, for example, 900-00-0101. Numbers are automatically incremented as you add patients in this manner. Nine was chosen to avoid confusion with Social Security Numbers, which never use that digit as the first number.
