Using Companies as Departments for Employee Health

Using SYSTOC for employee health for the clinic's and parent hospital's own employees is an excellent way to make the occupational health clinic an integral part of the larger institution.

When there is a separate data set exclusively for employee health at one institution, the company file would be wasted if it holds only one name. But if each department is set up as a company, there are many advantages:
  • greater flexibility in defining the structure, because a department (now company) can have many contacts
  • jobs in different departments may have the same name and ID but different responsibilities and ratings
  • the Corporate ID field can tie the "companies" together as one entity when creating reports for the institution as a whole

Example:

Enter both Pediatrics and Intensive Care as separate companies. Each can then have a department manager, a director of volunteers, a sharps incident contact - however many you need. The nurse job at each can have completely different job ratings and requirements.

Using the Corp ID in report specifications, or selecting all companies, brings everything together for reports about the entire employee health system. For department level reporting, use the Company ID to see all the data for Pediatrics or Intensive Care.
