HL7 Clinical Laboratory Configuration Guide

This guide provides instructions for using SYSTOC's HL7 Clinical Laboratory interface. It includes the setup of each screen in file maintenance amd the workflows for creating orders and handling results received from the laboratory. After results are received, the guide provides methods for reviewing and completing the tasks.

SYSTOC must be configured before the clinical laboratory interface can be implemented. This includes making sure task prototypes, PDF requisition forms, and sequences are set up to create an efficient workflow.

After SYSTOC setup, the basic workflow for lab requests and receipt of lab results is as follows:
  1. A SYSTOC user completes the custom requisition PDF that is attached to the lab order and saves it.
  2. A SYSTOC user changes the lab order status to HL7 Send which triggers the system to initiate an electronic order request to the laboratory.
  3. The status of the order in the Screening Folder > Lab Results - HL7 screen is updated as the lab and SYSTOC communicate about the state of the order.
  4. The laboratory sends results to SYSTOC which updates the status of the lab test record to HL7 Results Received automatically.
  5. The sequence on the Lab order notifies the nurse or provider via the Chart Box in the Clinical Work Area that the result has been received.
  6. Medical staff review the result and report the results according to your organization's procedures.
