HL7 Radiology Interface

This interface is used to submit radiology orders to a hospital's radiology department or a standalone radiology facility and also to receive the results. Visit the contact us page at www.ulehss.com for more information about using this interface.

Requirements

The HL7 Radiology Interface is a module of the SYSTOC HL7 Exchange. Hosted SYSTOC customers require no additional hardware. Self-hosted customers can obtain technical requirements for the SYSTOC HL7 Exchange from the Customer Resource Center (http://ul.custhelp.com) or by contacting Customer Support at 844.881.8713 or SYSTOCSupport@ul.com.

Hosted and self-hosted customers require an initial technical setup that includes installing the HL7 Radiology Interface, configuring the communication with the Workplace Health & Safety Integration Service, and testing the communication.

If you are interested in using the HL7 Radiology Interface with your hospital radiology department, you can find the SYSTOC HL7 Exchange Radiology Data Mapping.pdf on the Customer Resource Center (http://ul.custhelp.com). The document contains the HL7 details needed by your hospital's software to receive orders from SYSTOC and return radiology images and reports.

SYSTOC Setup

Once the technical setup is completed, the only required SYSTOC setup is defining the radiology facility (in Laboratories screen) and making sure appropriate users have at least Level1 permissions or permissions for the following screens:
Screen Name and Path Component Name Permissions
Utility > Security > User Information Form Access: A, C, or O
Orders frmOrders View, Add, Edit, Allow Memo and Memo Change

How does it work?

A staff person completes a specially programmed PDF form that is attached to the order and saves it. Changing the order status to HL7 Send triggers the system to initiate an electronic order request to the radiology facility. (You can also configure work flow sequences to change the order status to HL7 Send.)

The radiology facility electronically delivers x-ray images or reports to SYSTOC. If a matching patient record is found, the original order is copied and the image or report is attached. The original report is copied as many times as necessary to accommodate multiple images or reports. If the results provide a description, the description is used as the order description. Results without a matching record are deleted from the UL remote server.

The HL7 Information memo displays a unique URL for the radiology file, which can be copied and pasted into the address bar of your internet browser. Viewing the file on a browser gives you more capability to zoom in and out. The URL location could be inside your network or outside, protected by the normal security used by your site.

You can interface to two separate software applications if, for example, x-rays are taken in your clinic using one software application and reports are received from the radiology department who uses different software. When the x-ray image is sent to SYSTOC, the original order is copied and the image is attached. Later when the report is sent by the radiology department, the original order is copied again and the report is attached.
