HL7 Drug Test Interface

The HL7 Drug Test Interface can send orders and accept drug test results. Some drug test laboratories only send test results and others can receive orders as well as send test results. A list of drug test laboratories that have been tested with SYSTOC's HL7 Drug Test Interface is in the Drug Testing Guide. If you want to interface to a laboratory that is not listed, contact SYSTOC Customer Support to request an interface to a new laboratory. Each laboratory interface requires a separate license.

Requirements

The HL7 Drug Test Interface is a module of the SYSTOC HL7 Exchange. Hosted SYSTOC customers require no additional hardware. Self-hosted customers can obtain technical requirements for the SYSTOC HL7 Exchange from the Customer Resource Center (http://ul.custhelp.com) or by contacting UL EHS Sustainability Sales Department at Visit the contact us page at www.ulehss.com or Customer Support at 844.881.8713 or by email at SYSTOCSupport@ul.com.

Hosted and self-hosted customers require an initial technical setup that includes installing the HL7 Drug Test Interface, configuring the communication with the Workplace Health & Safety Integration Service, and testing the communication.

SYSTOC Setup

Once the technical setup is completed you must configure various screens in SYSTOC to prepare for sending and receiving drug test results. Review all the steps even if you already have configured file maintenance components for uploading results via LabLink or manual data entry. Your existing setup may require changes to successfully receive results using the HL7 Drug Test Interface.

The screens that require setup and setup details are included in Drug Testing Guide.

How does it work?

Specially programmed PDF forms are used to simulate the custody and control request form (CCF). A staff person completes the PDF that is attached to the order and saves it. Saving the PDF creates the drug screen record on the Drug Test screen.

The clinic delivers the specimen and CCF to the drug test laboratory and when the test results are ready, they are delivered electronically to SYSTOC. If a matching drug test record is found, the results are updated in SYSTOC and the order status is updated. Results without a matching drug test record must be manually resolved. Starting with SYSTOC 7.50, unresolved results are held in a table to minimize the work required for manual resolution.

Read the Drug Testing Guide for a detailed explanation of each step in the process.
