Close an Injury Case

Close an injury case when the patient has recovered or, if full recovery is unlikely, is medically stable and no longer in need of treatment. A Close Injury button is available on several SYSTOC screens, including Injury, Injury/Illness Visit, and Treatment Plan. On the Injury screen, scroll down to bottom of the screen and click the Close Injury button. If no button is available on a particular screen, you can access the process via Special > Open/Close Current Injury.

When you answer Yes to the Close Injury question, the Injury Closure screen appears to gather additional details on the closure.

Injury Closure ID

Optional code that is required in some states. If you need closure codes in your state, press F5, and use the Add button on the list view to create them.

Note: If you enter a % Disability when closing a case, the Case Closed on date is considered to be the Date of Disability for this specific injury. This information is required on some state forms.

The closure date controls the lost and limited work time calculations if the patient is still out of work or on limited duty when the case is closed. The work time is calculated from the day the patient went off work until the closure date. Normally the case is not closed until the patient is back to full duty. In such a case, the lost work time is based on the span of time between the treatment record that indicated an out of work status and the treatment record that shows a return to work.

It is possible to close a case that still has future appointments, but this is not recommended. If you do so, you will be asked to confirm injury closure again.

If you are closing a selected group of injuries, be sure that they all have the same Injury Closure ID and Case Closed on date.
