Recheck Exam Considerations

OSHA regulations state that an exam that shows a Standard Threshold Shift may be rechecked within 30 days to verify accuracy. This follow-up exam is at the option of the company.

When a recheck examination confirms the threshold shift, SYSTOC automatically marks the data that prompted the recheck (the previous record) invalid, and the recheck exam becomes the new baseline (assuming the default behavior is to move baselines). If the recheck does not confirm the shift, SYSTOC marks the previous record invalid and keeps the recheck record, moving the baseline back to where it was before. If a recheck exam is not performed within 30 days of the initial test, SYSTOC automatically marks the record that prompted the recheck with a Confirmation Status of Recheck Expired and the initial exam becomes the new baseline.

Note: Our Research Department recommends leaving the Recheck STS Shift field checked.
Note: Age correction and recheck exams are for both ears. If there is a shift in both ears but the recheck exam only confirms one ear, the new exam will be the baseline for that ear and the rechecked exam will be invalidated, moving the other ear’s baseline back to its original baseline.
