Laparoscopy Puts Surgeons at Risk for Ergonomic Injuries

[Posted 02/08/2010] A poll from the University of Maryland Medical Center states 87% of the responding surgeons have experienced discomfort when performing this procedure. Laparoscopy surgery involves the use of a camera device to aid physicians in minor as well as complex surgical tasks. Use of this device can lead to high rates of fatigue associated with the neck, hands, lower extremities, back, and eyes.

HealthDay News reports that this research will be published in the March issue of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. An abstract is currently available online.
