Finding Effective Treatment for CTS

[Posted 10/31/2008] The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) has released guidance documents on treatment recommendations for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). An AAOS work group did systematic review of current scientific and medical material and also offered the draft report for public comment. The version approved by AAOS includes extensive recommendations to guide the provider in information gathering and decision making.

CTS is one of the most common disorders of the upper extremity. AAOS states CTS has an incidence rate of 1-3 cases per 1,000 people in the US. Untreated or improperly treated CTS may lead to significant chronic pain, permanent sensory loss, and paralysis.
