NIOSH WorkLife Initiative

[Posted 11/14/2008] The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has created an extensive set of resources to promote worker health. This initiative is a guide for employers and employer-employee partnerships.

A core resource is the Essential Elements of Effective Workplace Programs and Policies for Improving Worker Health and Wellbeing, which consists of four broad areas:

  • Organizational Culture and Leadership

  • Program Design

  • Program Implementation and Resources

  • Program Evaluation

The resources assist in creating a comprehensive program for reducing workplace hazards and promoting worker health and wellbeing, an approach seen as more effective than separate, individual initiatives.
