Decline in Nonfatal Workplace Injuries and Illnesses Continue

[Posted 11/06/2008] In a recent Economic News Release, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses in the private sector continue to decline. The information is based on 2007 statistics in which injuries comprise approximately 95% and illnesses approximately 5% of all cases. The number of cases totaled 4 million in 2007, a decline from 4.1 million in 2006. The incidence rate in 2007 was 4.2 per 100 FTE workers, compared to 4.4 in 2006.
