State Court Rules Random Drug Testing of Student Athletes Unconstitutional

[Posted 03/17/2008] A Washington state Supreme Court ruled unanimously in favor of two families who sued the Wahkiakum School District because of its policy of conducting random urine tests of middle school and high school student athletes. The high court wrote, We can conceive of no way to draw a principled line permitting drug testing only student athletes. However, some of the justices did feel that random tests could be justified under different circumstances.
