FDA Warns Against Use of Hydroxycut Products

[Posted 06/09/2009] The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning against the use of Hydroxycut products because of potential liver damage. Hydroxycut products are produced by Iovate Health Sciences and are dietary supplements sold for weight loss/water loss.

The FDA has received over 20 reports of serious health problems, ranging from jaundice to liver damage that subsequently required a liver transplant. The FDA has not yet determined the ingredient and/or dosage that is causing the liver damage. Iovate has agreed to recall 14 of its products.

Consumers and healthcare professionals are asked to report any adverse side effects via FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting.
