Changes to Improve NYC Tower Crane Safety

[Posted 06/28/2008] In the wake of crane collapses in March and May 2008, the New York City Department of Buildings has announced an overhaul of the city’s tower crane safety regulations aimed at strengthening maintenance and inspection requirements to improve safety in and around construction sites with tower cranes. New requirements include additional testing, labeling, and tracking of critical components; improved maintenance records; and an expanded role for crane safety coordinators.
