Requirements for
Use of Revised International Certificate of
Vaccination or Prophylaxis for Yellow Fever
Vaccine
[Posted 01/11/2008]
The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) has released a new
International Certificate of Vaccination or
Prophylaxis (ICVP) to comply with the 2005 revision
of the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005).
The new ICPV provides space for certification of
additional types of vaccination or prophylaxis to
protect against newly emerging or reemerging
diseases or other events of public health
importance, and replaces all prior versions of the
International Certificate of Vaccination (ICV).
At this time, yellow
fever is the only disease under IHR 2005 for which
proof of vaccination may be required for travelers.
The new ICVP is required for the documentation of
yellow fever vaccines given on or after December
15, 2007. Certificates issued for yellow fever
vaccinations administered prior to December 15,
2007 are valid through the normal expiration date,
10 years from the date of vaccination.
Healthcare providers can order the new certificates
from the US Government Printing Office (GPO) online
at
http://bookstore.gpo.gov/collections/vaccination.jsp,
or by telephone (866.512.1800).
Additional information is available from the CDC
Travelers’ Health Team online at
http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/contentintcertofvaccination.aspx,
or by telephone (404.639.4500).
CDC requests that all
healthcare providers destroy any unused old
certificates and begin using the new certificate.
