Poultry Workers and Avian Flu

[Posted 02/28/2008] The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has issued detailed information regarding steps to take to protect poultry workers from the viruses that cause avian influenza and steps to take if an outbreak occurs. Although no human cases of the H5N1 strain of avian influenza have been reported in North, Central, or South America, 353 human cases have been reported worldwide, of which 221 cases proved fatal.
