[Posted 08/15/2008]
The
American College of Occupational and Environmental
Medicine (ACOEM) has published new medical treatment
guidelines for managing chronic pain. The guidelines
are part of ACOEM’s continuing series of practice
guidelines. The newest release includes over 200
recommendations developed by a multi-disciplined
team of national experts who used extensive
resources to ensure that they created
“state-of-the-art medical guidelines.”
Numerous chronic pain conditions are discussed,
including chronic low back pain, trigger points/myofascial
pain, and complex regional pain syndrome. Also
discussed are a wide range of treatments, including
medication, appliances (e.g., magnets), acupuncture,
injection therapies, and spinal cord manipulation.
The print version of Occupational Medicine Practice
Guidelines 2nd Edition, 2008 Revision will be
available in September.
