[Posted 7/30/10] The core knowledge and skills that occupational physicians incorporate into daily practice are relevant to many aspects of disaster planning and emergency management. ACOEM has prepared a policy and position statement that details the relevant expertise that occupational and environmental medicine physicians can bring when responding to threats from intentional assaults, unintentional incidents that may result in mass casualties, and natural disasters. It also discusses ways in which those medical professionals can work with management and technical personnel to prepare for such events.
